A Winter on the Banks of the lac d'Annecy : Skiing, Christmas Markets, and the Waterfront in Duingt
In winter, life on the “ lac d'Annecy ” takes on a different rhythm. The shores grow quieter, the light skims the surrounding peaks, and the ski resorts of the Aravis and Semnoz are just a short drive away. From “ Duingt,” on the lake’s left shore, you can enjoy a peaceful retreat where you can alternate between days of skiing, Christmas markets, and more leisurely moments by the water.
Ski Resorts Around Annecy
Several ski resorts surround the lake, all within a distance that makes it possible to spend the day there without having to leave early in the morning.
Le Semnoz, located 35 minutes from the “ Villa Caroline ” and accessible by bus, remains a family-friendly resort: downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing are all available in a ski area that’s easy to navigate, regardless of skill level. An hour’s drive away, the Plateau des Glières offers a slightly wider range of activities: cross-country skiing, dog sledding, snowshoe trails, and groomed paths for a more leisurely stroll.
For a larger ski area, La Clusaz and Le Grand-Bornand are about 50 minutes from the Villa Caroline. The Aravis Mountains offer numerous slopes there, as well as places to eat and relax after skiing. After a day on the slopes, extend your day on the shores of Lake lac d'Annecy by discovering Le Lisca, our restaurant serving fresh, locally sourced cuisine.
Every winter, the Annecy Christmas market brings the old town to life, just 10 minutes from the Villa Caroline. The stalls offer local artisanal products, ranging from seasonal decorations to Savoyard specialties to enjoy on the spot: mulled wine, tartiflette, and a few stalls to browse as you stroll through the illuminated streets.
For families with young children, the Hameau du Père Noël in Saint-Blaise, near the lake, offers a chance to explore his house and workshop, with activities designed for the little ones. Another similar destination is the Château du Père Noël in Menthon-Saint-Bernard, where children can meet Santa Claus and tour his workshops for an afternoon.
For those who enjoy venturing off the beaten path, the " lac d'Annecy " offers water walking sessions in the great outdoors, between Semnoz and Mont Veyrier, right in the heart of winter. This activity is suitable for all ages and fitness levels and is practiced in supervised groups. Beyond the sensation itself, water walking provides true relaxation and helps strengthen the body’s natural defenses during this time of year.
