Winter must-sees in La Plagne

Published on October 4, 2022

La Plagne is a multi-faceted resort located in the Paradiski ski area. Eleven villages make up this resort and each has its own personality. One village caters perfectly to families while the other attracts partygoers. Les Montagnettes La Belle Plagne offers two establishments with direct access to the slopes, both located in La Belle Plagne.

At an altitude of 2050 meters, it is the ideal place to recharge your batteries in the middle of nature among the snowy peaks. Entirely pedestrian and built on the side of the mountain, the village is divided into two parts: the upper and the lower.

You will find all the essential services just a few steps from your accommodation. The center of the village gathers many stores (stores, ski-shop, restaurants, bars,...). Many après-ski activities are also waiting for you. You will be able to walk in the streets, do your shopping while strolling and let yourself be impregnated by this village atmosphere. In a few minutes, you can reach Plagne Bellecôte thanks to a pedestrian gondola.

It is also the favorite spot for skiers since the accommodations in Belle Plagne are ski in ski out. You also have direct access to the Roche de Moi gondola and then climb to the Bellecote glacier to enjoy the joys of skiing.

One of the spots not to be missed in La Belle Plagne is the snowpark. Two freestyle zones are open for those who are not afraid of the cold.

From Belle Plagne, you can easily reach the slopes of Plagne Bellecôte. From there there are many connections to Plagne Centre, Champagny-en-Vanoise or Montchavin-les-Coches. This gives you the opportunity to enjoy the Paradiski ski area.

Paradiski is 425 km of slopes, 70% of which are above 2000 meters in altitude. More than 20% of the area is located in the forest. Skiing while walking in the woods is therefore possible. We advise you to download the Yuge application. Thanks to this application, you can easily find the 18 play areas of the domain, challenge your friends and take selfies on the chairlifts.

But one of the must-do's in La Plagne is the Mont-Blanc blue run located next to Montchavin. It is the longest run in the resort. Let's go for 6,5 km of skiing or snowboarding pleasure. This very accessible and wide slope offers you a breathtaking view of the mountains before reaching the calm of the forest and then the village of Montchavin.

Another slope to go down without moderation: the blue Levasset slope. It is located on the Champagny side. Reach the top of the Roche de Mio and Carella and enjoy the 5.2 km of trails. With its wide slope and its gentle gradient, challenge yourself to go down it without stopping to enjoy all the sensations.

The little plus: Paradiski can be crossed via the blue runs, a real pleasure for beginners. However, experienced skiers are not forgotten as half of the runs are red or black.

This is without a doubt the activity to do in La Plagne: bobsleigh. And yes, the resort has the one and only bobsleigh and skeleton track in France. It must be said that this discipline is a tradition. Before the creation of the resort, the inhabitants used to play bobsleigh on the road. It is in 1992 during the Olympic Games of Albertville that the track is created. It is open at the end of the afternoon. But remember to book your descent. For families, opt for the bob raft option accessible from 1.30m. It accommodates four persons and reaches 80 km/h.

Another possibility of activities: the speed sled. In a semi-recumbent position, you can launch yourself at 90 km/h in 19 curves. A unique experience.

If you are not afraid of heights, ice climbing is for you. An ice tower of 24m is waiting for you in Champagny le Haut.

If you are staying at the Chalet des Cimes, we recommend that you go towellness area where a sauna and whirlpool await you.

The 11 villages of La Plagne allow you to discover numerous restaurants, whether they are located on the slopes or in the resort. The restaurant not to be missed is L'Union located in La Plagne Montalbert. Phil Howard, who received two stars when he was working in London, welcomes you in his establishment. He will make you discover revisited mountain dishes.

For inexpensive and quality menus, turn to Matafan. It is one of the few restaurants that offers vegetarian dishes.

Finally, if you want to enjoy a good meal while taking advantage of a panoramic view, head for "Le 360". Located on the Fornelet plateau in Plagne-Montalbert at 1970 meters, its glass design allows you to enjoy the view. You can choose between the self-service part and the restaurant part.
